What did the founding fathers intend to happen with the first amendment? It's arguably a form of "warfare"; a lower tier one at that, but potentially damaging all the same. I don't think we should cower from that, though. Direct threats and violence aren't fair grounds, but derogatory terms and revelatory information should be implemented where relevant.
The 1A is a societal release valve of sorts; civilizational even. It also serves as a Darwinian form of natural selection. Those who can not bear to handle truths must not be promoted to positions of authority and power — which we know happens more often than not.
So-called free speech [in America] has been suppressed for arguably centuries, and the consequences are present. People that would have otherwise been in mental holding facilities are now running amok as gov’t officials - from your local police officer to members of political office (local, state, and federal - everywhere). The simplest of speech can cause them to become unhinged, and don’t dare question a preconceived notion of theirs unless you’re prepared for a backlash of their cognitive dissonance.
If someone can't genuinely handle this intended form of free speech, then their genetic makeup is of a seemingly inferior quality. These are people who have been sheltered from brash realities, and have become corrosive elements of nature. They insist on censorship not for themselves alone, but that it be done on a widespread scale.
The truly best of us have become peasants of truly the worst, but like a herd of sheep, the masses must be steered toward a path of excellence and righteousness. A gradual shifting of the Overton window can steer the people right. For that to happen, though, takes ‘free speech’ — and a combatant form of it!
